Thank you!

Thank you all for your kind comments on my last post!  I really appreciate all your sweet words!

I picked a winner for the Pink Blush giveaway the other day and have been meaning to post here with an update, but this week has been crazy!  I’m sorry it’s taken so long!

Here’s a little video of me picking the lucky winner (and yup, that’s Ace of Base on Pandora playing in the background!)…

Video

I hope this video works?  If not, the winner of the $75 giveaway is my old blog friend Kristin!  We’ve known each from way back before we both had significant others, when blogging was something I did regularly (like, a few times a week!), and when we were writing about life and love and everything in between.  I have so many great memories from blogging back in the day, having met so many wonderful people through this venue.  Kristin- I’m glad you won lady!

Here’s wishing everyone a happy Friday and a good weekend!

Halfway there!

Hello.

It’s me.

Heh, I couldn’t help it.  A song I was really digging at first has now, like all new songs, gotten overplayed on all the radio stations and I’m kind of sick of it!

How was your holiday?  We traveled to PA for Christmas this year, and it was a good trip, and it was also 70 degrees on Christmas?!  What in the hell…?!

image1

So I’m now over 20 weeks pregnant, and officially halfway there!  That seems so crazy!  The past five months have flown by!

I’m not necessarily planning on doing weekly updates here (obviously- clearly I haven’t started that from the get go), but I did want to document the halfway mark of my pregnancy and do a little update, similar to some I have followed like Sarah’s and Julie’s.

Baby Update

Baby (or M&M as we’re calling him or her) is the size of a banana!  Or, an endive!  Supposedly M&M is 10 inches and about 10.6 oz.

Weight Gain

At my 18 week Doctor’s appt., I had gained six pounds.  Two and a half weeks later and with the holidays, my home scale says I’m up a total of ten pounds.  So I’d say somewhere in the middle there.

Workouts

I’ve been continuing to workout throughout my pregnancy.  I’ve cut back on running a bit, mostly because of the cold weather and Daylight Savings and the fact that it’s so damn dark when I get home, and pretty dark and cold first thing.  I’ve been continuing with some cardio, but more sticking to strength training, and started taking a prenatal yoga class.  Where pre-pregnancy I worked out 5-6 days a week, now I’m doing about 4-5.

Pregnancy Eats

Thanks to the holidays and treats all over everywhere, my snacking hasn’t been very healthy.  My meals have been pretty good, but lots of cookies, and treats, and candy mixed in there.  I also don’t feel like I’ve been getting enough fruits and veggies the past couple of weeks, but a lot of that is due to travel, and the holidays, and laziness before the holidays.  I’ve turned over a new leaf this week, and getting back on track with clean eating (for the most part), but still allowing for some treats, because who am I to deny M&M a little treat?

I’ve been really fortunate in that I haven’t really had any food aversions, not since just a couple in the first trimester when there was a period of a couple weeks where I was wanting all things white, and carby!  Rice pilaf and macaroni and bread and saltines were go-to’s.  I wasn’t feeling chicken for a stint there, or fish, really any meat for a couple weeks, but everything is back to normal now.  I did have a little morning sickness, but was lucky- never yacked, and it really only lasted six weeks or so.  Now I’m back to normal and feeling good!

Symptoms

Not a whole lot, thankfully!  I’m feeling really good.  Less tired than several weeks ago, when come 7:30PM, I’d be dozing on the couch and not able to make it through one Netflix show (just recently got hooked on Walking Dead– NEVER thought that show would be up my ally but totally addicted).

My back has been aching a bit.  I’ve always had a bit of a back “thing,” over the years, precipitated by nothing out of the ordinary.  I could run a half marathon one day and it’s totally fine, and be doing cardio the next and it hurts for weeks.  Stretching and strength training usually help, but sometimes not.  Lately it’s been sore again, and I’m nervous that as I continue to put on weight, it might only get worse?  Trying to stick with exercise, stretching, and yoga to keep it feeling okay.

I’m currently in the awkward stage of “showing,” where I haven’t exactly popped yet, and it’s more of a “pregnant? or awkward?” situation.  Like, “has she had too many cookies?” or, “is she?”  It’s a weird stage for me.  People that know me can kind of sort of tell, but beyond that, it’s not really noticeable, and if I weren’t pregnant, my belly right now just sorta feels like… like I’m letting myself go.  I’m not in the stage that I’m excited to show off my bump with cute pregnancy clothes, more in the looking for flowy, loose tops that conceal the weirdness stage right now.  I’m just trying to go with it, and embrace the fact that this period is all normal, and a sign that my little M&M is growing bigger each day.

Sleep

Hasn’t been so awesome over the last several weeks.  I can still sleep comfortably for the most part, and still on my tummy, but I’ve been waking up pretty regularly each night around 2 or 3AM, and I’m awake for a good hour or so, my mind going and going.  Also, I’ve been having some crazy dreams!

Looking Forward To…

“Popping” and there being no question that there really is a baby in there and not just extra treats!

Purchases

I bought a few items of maternity clothing from Gap and Pink Blush Maternity on Black Friday that I’ll probably be able to bust out soon.  I’ve still been wearing all my regular clothes; some skinny jeans I just started wearing a belly band with.  Maternity clothes are SO expensive, just because they’re called “maternity?”  So I’m trying to pick a few essential things, a few fun things, and I’m fortunate that a good friend handed over a whole big bin of clothes for me to borrow, and, during the week I’m in scrubs for work, so it’s really just the weekends that I need to figure out clothes for!

Feeling…

Excited!  And just still in awe.  I can’t believe I’m actually growing a little human that will be here in the spring!

Movement

Yes!  Felt M&M move for the first time at week 19 and it was so exciting!  People kept telling me it feels like “flutters,” but I experienced it more like a “flick” or tap from the inside!  Kind of similar to popcorn in there!  I love feeling him or her move- it happens when I’m just hanging out relaxing.  Matt got to feel it (and I saw it!) for the first time this past week and that was so cool!

Anything Else

Started a registry the other day.  We walked in Babies R Us and promptly walked right out- so overwhelming in there!  Thankfully I have girlfriends who have recently registered to help in that department.  I’m also starting to look into childbirth classes and a breast-feeding class.

Did I mention how surreal this still all feels?!

Anyone else been pregnant or currently preggo and have any fun tidbits to share?

T’is the Season…

**Thank you for the kind, supportive, and congratulatory comments on my last post!  We’re so excited, and at 17 1/2 weeks with this little M&M brewing, it’s finally starting to sink in that this time next year, we’ll have a little human to take care of!  We’re thrilled and genuinely thank everyone for your sweet comments and messages!

Does anyone else feel like you blinked and all of a sudden, it’s December?  It feels like it was just the early fall and all of a sudden, here we are in December, with just over two weeks until Christmas?  I don’t know where the time goes!

The weekend before last we got our Christmas tree!  We wanted to cut down our own at a local tree farm, but we were crunched for time and instead we dished out $45 to the community house in our town for a super dry (but pretty!) tree.

Charlie is totally unsure of what to make of a TREE, in the house…

9579f04d-2af3-4e8e-97f8-babc5b6257e8

Even more unsure (er, embarrassed?) was how she felt in this little reindeer outfit I picked up for her when Matt was away on business last week…

73169b3f-c6ff-485c-9b05-7ce9c945c054

But seriously, how cute is that little embarrassed face?!

Last weekend my mom came to stay with me a night while Matt was away, and we indulged in the yummiest of Greek food, followed by a night in on the couch with a Hallmark holiday movie and M&M’s.

If I hadn’t slurped up all of this crack deliciousness in almost one sitting the week before, I would have saved some to share with her…

The next day, we got a little crafty and my mom helped me with a project I had in mind to bring a little bit of holiday charm to our window boxes out front!

Other than the decorations, I do still have some shopping to do, but I’m pretty excited for the holidays this year.  We’ll be traveling to Pennsylvania to visit with Matt’s family this year.  I’m excited but know I’ll also miss my family back home.  We’re doing a pre-Christmas get together which will be good, and within the next two weeks, between the two of us, we have four parties on the books!  I have a feeling January will be a month dedicated to a bit of R&R after all the holidaze craziness.  We even have a little trip (my coworker told me this is our babymoon!) planned to Puerto Rico for late January that we’re really looking forward to!

How about you?  Are you ready for the holidays?  Have you decorated?  Lots of shopping left to do?

Friday balance…

TGIF!

As I log in over here (and have to get an email reminder with my log in password), I’m reminded how quickly time flies, and how it’s been a while since I’ve spent some time here in this space.

I started this blog as an outlet, where I could visit and chat and vent and share, with like-minded people about the nitty gritty of real life happenings.  With many highs and lows of daily life, my goal has been to write about attempting to maintain a sense of all around balance in a life that can so often feel hurried, and frantic, and overwhelming at times.

Balance is important to me, and it’s funny how something that I consider such a priority is also something that can be a struggle at times.  Do you notice the same?  Things that are at the top of our list are sometimes those that we have to devote the most thought, and effort towards.

Here’s how I have been trying to maintain some balance in my daily life as of late…

  • With all the summer cookouts and excuses for beer and burgers and ice cream, I’ve made a commitment for the past twenty one days to exercise daily.

1381489_1552512508312621_2282268715550206855_n-300x300Balance is about working hard, and enjoying the little things…

S’mores on our patio. #getinmybelly

  • We love to cook at home, and especially in the summer, grilling is one of our go-to’s.  Sometimes, on a Friday, we’d rather sit for drinks on a patio and have someone else do the cooking.  And we’re so pumped about one of our new favorite places not far from us, where we can bring our pup for dinner while dining alfresco!
unnamed-3

“Gimme that sangria, Mom!”

  • Summer cookouts don’t always have to be unhealthy!  Brought a little balance to the table a few weeks ago with this yummy app:
Strawberry Ricotta Bites

Strawberry Ricotta Bites

  • Reading.  I love to get lost in a good book, and with hot summer days lately, we’ve taken to cooling off in our finished basement and catching some Netflix shows.  I’m also trying to balance out the TV watching with some reading.  I feel like it’s easy to lose hours of the evening getting sucked into episode after episode of OITNB, or our new one, The Americans, but at the same time, I feel like I should be balancing things out with something more stimulating for my brain, like getting into a good book.  What are you reading now?

The bottom line is that balance isn’t always easy.  It seems like a good idea, and easy enough, but it can take some work!  It might not always look perfect, and some days will feel more balanced than others.  My goal is to try to focus on little ways to bring balance to my daily life, making small adjustments in my routine, taking the time to slow things down a bit and giving myself permission to not always having things exactly perfect.

How are you adding some balance to your life lately?

Tuesday Treats… the Paris Edition

I traveled to Paris just about two weeks ago now, and so many moments during my trip I found myself taking deep breaths, and really intentionally trying to take it all in, soak it all up, live truly in that moment.  My mind would wander, and I’d consciously redirect myself and remind myself that you’re in Paris; live and be in this moment, right here, right now.

I so enjoyed my trip.  The cafés, the architecture, the much less fast pace life in Paris compared to the States, specifically the East Coast, the baguettes, the macarons, the eclairs, the champagne, and wine, and new beers.  The Eiffel Tower.  Oh how I fell in love with the Eiffel Tower.  Notre Dame.  Visting Ernest Hemingway’s haunts.  Versailles.  Speaking French again.  Cappuccinos.  Croissants.  Oh my goodness, the croissants.

The whole entire trip was a treat; it truly was.  Here are just a handful of pictures and I promise to write more soon.

What did you treat yourself to recently?  Linking up with Becky on today’s post of treats!

Treats from this week…

One of my not to secret guilty pleasures is The Bachelor and Bachelorette.  As I’m sitting here with my husband watching Intervention (another show I’m addicted to- “addicted”- I know, the irony is not lost!), a trade off before I subject him to a whole entire two nights of this Bachelorette shit show quest for love, I decided to get in on Treat Yourself Tuesday.  I was reminded of the things that I look forward to.  Reading blogs, crazy reality TV shows, playing with Charlie puppy after work, lazy Sunday mornings, long runs, and I decided to write about some other treats I’ve enjoyed lately.

IMG_2719

An adult coloring book!  I’d seen these online a while back and kind of forgot about them, and found a handful on sale at Barnes & Noble last night and decided to pick this one up!  Mindless fun.  While watching The Bachelorette.  So, while I kill brain cells watching, I activate new ones coloring.  Win!

unnamed-3

Breakfast, or any meal lately, on our deck.  And just, deck and patio weather in general.  I’ve been loving the warm weather lately to enjoy sitting outside in our yard. Not loving the crazy pollen!

IMG_2700Treated myself to these new Sam Edelman booties for my birthday as a gift I picked out from my mom!  Loving these- they’re super comfy and I’ve been pairing them with shorts and jeans, and looking forward to wearing them around Paris with spring dresses in FIVE DAYS!

unnamed-1I made a this yummy slushie the other morning after a warm run!  Strawberry lemonade Nuun Hydration blended with lots of ice- totally hit the spot!

unnamed

So did these “Pink Lady” martinis I enjoyed with some girlfriends before seeing the Broadway production of Dirty Dancing last weekend! #icarriedawatermelon

Among some other treats that aren’t pictured, include some fun new clothes for my trip!  I didn’t really need new clothes, but when you wear scrubs to work every day, you miss dressing like a regular human sometimes.  And really, a trip to Paris?  As if I needed a better excuse than that to treat myself to a few new fashionable finds?!

Thanks to Becky for hosting this fun Tuesday treat!

What did you treat yourself to this week?

Where does the time go?

I honestly think about updating this blog every day.  Every damn day I think about a post that I might like to write, an idea will pop into my head on my drive to work, someone will say something that will make me think of something else that will make me think, “huh, maybe I’ll write about that…”

And then time passes.  And it’s 8:57pm on a Wednesday night and you’re just finally sitting down to relax.  And you realize, not only have the past few weeks flown by, but the last couple of months have whirled by too.  And you remember, life is short.  And it’s important to stop and take it all in, to actually press the pause button and enjoy the small moments that make up these days passing by.

Life is short.

Get dirty.
unnamed-12Get dirty with friends.

unnamed-13Soak in the tub.

unnamed-14Life is short.  Travel.  Laugh often.  Drink Bloody Mary’s on a patio on a Sunday afternoon. Enjoy brunch.

unnamed-3

Life is short.  Forget about eating “the right thing” once in a while and eat the things that taste damn good and don’t worry about it.

Life is short.  Get gussied up with your main squeeze.

unnamed-7

Life is short.  Laugh at yourself.  Let the small things go.  Get silly.

unnamed-10

Life is short.  Eat cupcakes.  Eat lemon cupcakes with coconut cream cheese frosting that your mom makes you for your birthday, and the next day eat dark chocolate frosted peanut butter cupcakes from your work wife.

unnamed-8

Life is short.  Take it all in.  Live in the moment.  Be kind to yourself and be kind to others.

And lastly, take naps, because life is NOT too short to enjoy a good siesta.

This post is inspired by one of my favorite bloggers, Kate!

Your turn!  Life is short… finish this sentence!

Treats for Tuesday

Treat-Yourself-Tuesday-Badge

Treat Yourself Tuesday is really a chance for me to share some of my treats from over the past few days.  There weren’t specifically any treats that happened today, but there are some over the past few days!

One treat was this mani I gave to myself Sunday afternoon.  The light blue color screams spring to me, and I paired it with one of my new Jamberry wraps!

unnamed-1

I also have been treating myself here and there for things with my trip to Paris in mind (one month away!).

These shoes are one of my latest purchases!  I’ve been looking for an open toed booty for the spring and these ones I figure will go well with skinny jeans, black pants or leggings, skirts, and dresses.  And perfect for Paris!

unnamed-4

Oh, also?  That rug is a new treat that Matt and I picked out from my in-laws finally as a Christmas gift for our living room.

And speaking of treats, we just booked this tour for our trip and I’m ecstatic about it!

Here’s a little blurb about it.  Cannot. Wait.

Eat, drink, mingle, savor.  You will immerse yourself in French food, wine and culture and learn about the strong traditions around eating, drinking and living the Gallic way.  We start off with a behind the scenes tour of that everyday marvel, the French boulangerie! You will meet the bakers, experience baguette-making up close and leave with a greater appreciation for these individuals who start their day at 2am!  The tour will then visit 5-7 gourmet food shops where you will mingle with the shopkeepers, learn about their specialities and of course taste what they have to offer. Tastings are generous and include a variety of treats such as artisanal breads and pastries, olive oils, wine, cheese, and so much more!

The other treats I’ve been getting lately have been for the biggest treat of all…

Meet Charlie!

She finally came to her new furever home on Saturday and we couldn’t be happier!

Here’s our prom photo:

unnamed-2

She’s such a little love!  So friendly and calm and really sweet!  Other than the treats mentioned above, most of the time lately I’ve been buying her little nuggets to treat her.  How can you resist that face?!

How have you treated yourself lately?

Treat Yourself Tuesday!

One of my favorite bloggers lately linked up with another new-to-me blogger, Becky, for a fun idea that I can totally get behind: Treat Yourself Tuesday.

Treat-Yourself-Tuesday-Badge

The idea is to be kinder to ourselves each day, and take time out of our busy lives to do something nice for ourselves.

We’re all about balance around here, and one of the things that helps us feel balanced on our insides is doing nice things for ourselves.  Doing nice things for other people is really awesome too, but today is all about the self love, and I think self care is so important, because if we can’t nurture ourselves, how can we be fully present and give our best to others?

A couple of ways I treated myself today included…

IMG_1761

A hazelnut iced coffee from Bruegger’s.  I LOVE Bruegger’s coffee- especially because the beans are flavored, rather than adding in artificial sweeteners that I generally dislike.

Another treat included a really good workout this evening.  And soon I plan to treat myself to some down time on the couch with my husband catching up on some DVR’d shows, and a little reading.

How about you?  How did you treat yourself this Tuesday?
