T’is the Season…

**Thank you for the kind, supportive, and congratulatory comments on my last post!  We’re so excited, and at 17 1/2 weeks with this little M&M brewing, it’s finally starting to sink in that this time next year, we’ll have a little human to take care of!  We’re thrilled and genuinely thank everyone for your sweet comments and messages!

Does anyone else feel like you blinked and all of a sudden, it’s December?  It feels like it was just the early fall and all of a sudden, here we are in December, with just over two weeks until Christmas?  I don’t know where the time goes!

The weekend before last we got our Christmas tree!  We wanted to cut down our own at a local tree farm, but we were crunched for time and instead we dished out $45 to the community house in our town for a super dry (but pretty!) tree.

Charlie is totally unsure of what to make of a TREE, in the house…

Even more unsure (er, embarrassed?) was how she felt in this little reindeer outfit I picked up for her when Matt was away on business last week…

But seriously, how cute is that little embarrassed face?!

Last weekend my mom came to stay with me a night while Matt was away, and we indulged in the yummiest of Greek food, followed by a night in on the couch with a Hallmark holiday movie and M&M’s.

If I hadn’t slurped up all of this crack deliciousness in almost one sitting the week before, I would have saved some to share with her…

The next day, we got a little crafty and my mom helped me with a project I had in mind to bring a little bit of holiday charm to our window boxes out front!

Other than the decorations, I do still have some shopping to do, but I’m pretty excited for the holidays this year.  We’ll be traveling to Pennsylvania to visit with Matt’s family this year.  I’m excited but know I’ll also miss my family back home.  We’re doing a pre-Christmas get together which will be good, and within the next two weeks, between the two of us, we have four parties on the books!  I have a feeling January will be a month dedicated to a bit of R&R after all the holidaze craziness.  We even have a little trip (my coworker told me this is our babymoon!) planned to Puerto Rico for late January that we’re really looking forward to!

How about you?  Are you ready for the holidays?  Have you decorated?  Lots of shopping left to do?

Treats from this week…

One of my not to secret guilty pleasures is The Bachelor and Bachelorette.  As I’m sitting here with my husband watching Intervention (another show I’m addicted to- “addicted”- I know, the irony is not lost!), a trade off before I subject him to a whole entire two nights of this Bachelorette shit show quest for love, I decided to get in on Treat Yourself Tuesday.  I was reminded of the things that I look forward to.  Reading blogs, crazy reality TV shows, playing with Charlie puppy after work, lazy Sunday mornings, long runs, and I decided to write about some other treats I’ve enjoyed lately.

An adult coloring book!  I’d seen these online a while back and kind of forgot about them, and found a handful on sale at Barnes & Noble last night and decided to pick this one up!  Mindless fun.  While watching The Bachelorette.  So, while I kill brain cells watching, I activate new ones coloring.  Win!

Breakfast, or any meal lately, on our deck.  And just, deck and patio weather in general.  I’ve been loving the warm weather lately to enjoy sitting outside in our yard. Not loving the crazy pollen!

IMG_2700Treated myself to these new Sam Edelman booties for my birthday as a gift I picked out from my mom!  Loving these- they’re super comfy and I’ve been pairing them with shorts and jeans, and looking forward to wearing them around Paris with spring dresses in FIVE DAYS!

unnamed-1I made a this yummy slushie the other morning after a warm run!  Strawberry lemonade Nuun Hydration blended with lots of ice- totally hit the spot!

So did these “Pink Lady” martinis I enjoyed with some girlfriends before seeing the Broadway production of Dirty Dancing last weekend! #icarriedawatermelon

Among some other treats that aren’t pictured, include some fun new clothes for my trip!  I didn’t really need new clothes, but when you wear scrubs to work every day, you miss dressing like a regular human sometimes.  And really, a trip to Paris?  As if I needed a better excuse than that to treat myself to a few new fashionable finds?!

Thanks to Becky for hosting this fun Tuesday treat!

What did you treat yourself to this week?

Lions and lambs oh my

What’s the saying, in like a lion and out like a lamb?  That’s what they say about March, right? Not so much lamb-like around here on the last day of March.  It was chilly today, and just a couple days ago, no surprise really- more snow!  I’m really hoping for some lamb-like weeks on the horizon.  It’s spring and yet, it doesn’t really feel very much like spring at all.  I freaking can’t wait to have a solid streak of good weather.  It doesn’t have to be perfect, just a day in the 50’s or 60’s will do.  That weather right there to me is perfect running weather, and I can’t wait to get back outside on the roads again more consistently for long (heck, I’ll even take short) runs.

March kind of flew by for me here, what about you?  I think it’s because I was hit with a bit of the case of the Januaries that I felt like I really welcomed the past two months fully with open arms.  And they seemed to fly by!  We had a lot going on, so that’s part of it, but in general, time just didn’t seem to drag as much as it did in January.

Like I did a couple of months back, here’s what I’ve been up to lately.  I like to reflect back on a month- see what’s been happening, what went well, areas that seemed like a win, and places I struggled.

Here’s what’s up currently:

Reading:  Three books currently.  The Star Spangled Buddhist: Zen, Tibetan, and Soka Gakkai Buddhism and the Quest for Enlightenment in America by Jeff Ourvan, Paris Letters (thanks to a handful of you for this recommendation!) by Janice Macleod, and The Good Luck of Right Now by Matthew Quick (who also wrote Silver Linings Playbook).

Loving:  That the days are getting longer.  That there’s more sunlight. These new, all natural face products.  Andalou is a line of all natural products and they’re really easy on the skin- great for clarifying, rejuvenating, and brightening!

Thinking:  About plans for summer.  Weekends away with friends.  Long runs.  Cookouts.  Patios and beers on patios with friends.

Frustrated:  The things that frustrate me right now are just little things, and instead of focusing on them, I’m choosing to just let them go…

Feeling:  Sleepy, honestly, currently.  But also happy, and content, and thankful.

Anticipating:  Getting a puppy!  We’re looking into either rescuing one or going the breeder route.  We’d love to give a good home to a puppy that needs our help, but that’s the other thing, we know we want a young dog, so we’re looking for the right fit.

Watching:  We’ve kind of gotten into that new show with Ryan Phillippe, Secrets and Lies. Anyone else?

Also, hi Ryan:

920x920

Sad:  Hmm.  I’m sad right now about a situation one of my close family members is going through.  Life is tough, and hard, and shitty sometimes, and I just feel bad for what this person is going through and hope that they will come out on the other side happier, healthier, and in a better place.

Working:  I actually do have a bit of a new role at work as of the last couple of weeks.  That’s been going well and has been a bit busier.  See also, feeling sleepy.

Grateful:  Always for my health, and the health of my loved ones.  Also grateful for random early morning coffee dates with girlfriends, spur of the moment plans with friends, the ability to be spontaneous right now, discovering new recipes, cooking for others, that my back which had been injured is feeling a lot better, and for the new hazelnut cinnamon coffee I bought the other day- YUM.

Listening:  Still to books on CD on my commute to work, and to Pandora’s Hipster Cocktail Party pretty much anytime my husband and I are hanging out, cooking, cleaning, or throwing our own version of a hipster cocktail party.

Wishing:  For some good weather to come!  For some sunny days.  To be able to spend an afternoon with the windows down at home and to take a drive with the sunroof open again soon.

How about you?  Join in and share some of the things you’re anticipating, loving, reading, or watching lately. Also, what’s March like for you right now?  The lion or the lamb?

Currently…

Taking a page from this lady’s book, I’m going to do a little post on what’s currently on my plate right now.

Reading:  I’m currently “reading” The Vacationers by Emma Straub, and by “reading” I mean listening to- in the car, book on CD, from the library, to and from work.  A coworker had given me a copy, the real book copy, a couple months ago, and I never got around to reading it.  After devouring the Serial podcast (I was so engrossed, much like everyone else), I needed something else to listen to on my way to work with my new, longer commute from our new home.  I’m enjoying The Vacationers.  It’s a light and easy read… er, easy listen?  On my nightstand I have The Orphan Train ready to go, which I’m excited to delve into soon!

Loving:  Getting settled in our new house!  It’s so, so nice to have more space, to have a place to really actually call our own, and to do with it exactly what we want.  I’m loving Pinterest-ing the hell out of ideas for room decor, paint colors, etc.  We’re really loving just hanging at home these past three weeks (today marks three weeks of home ownership).  I’m excited to come home after work and hunker down in a place that’s all ours.

Thinking:  About recipes, and more decorating, and about what races I might like to run coming up.  I’m also thinking about my job, and if this is where I can picture myself long term, or not.  And I’m thinking about how fast time truly does go by.

Frustrated:  I know there was something just the other day that I was complaining about, but I can’t remember it now as hard as I’m trying.  I guess it couldn’t have been that big of a deal then?

Feeling:  Like I’m glad that I have a space like this to write about my daily life, my struggles sometimes, and the fact that I’ve already connected with so many cool people through this venue.  I’m also feeling like I really need to continue to focus on the theme of this blog: balance– it’s something that sometimes challenges me in my everyday life.  Too much of a good thing, not enough of something else, all or nothing thinking, etc.

Anticipating:  Some warmer weather, or really, some more sunlight.  I don’t totally mind the cold; it’s not my favorite, but I’m getting by.  Just this past weekend I had a really awesome twelve mile run in the bitter cold seven degree weather, and believe it or not, I actually kind of enjoyed it!  I joined a running club after being inspired by this gal to do so, and being a part of a group like that was what motivated me to get out there that day and accomplish that run in such cold temps.  What I’m really looking forward to though is some more sunlight, and longer days. The sun rising earlier so that I can get some running in before work, and setting later so it’s not pitch dark when I’m heading home!

Watching:  Do you watch The Taste?  The finale is this week so it’s a little late to jump on board, but I love Anthony Bourdain we love this show, and tune in every week.  I’m also pretty into Chopped (I guess there’s a cooking show theme here), and can’t wait for Grey’s (I think I’m one of the five people in the world who still watch!), How to Get Away with Murder, and Scandal to come back on.  I just binge watched Scandal over the past month or so- started from the beginning, and I’m hooked!  Does anyone else watch any of these?  And, lest I forget to mention the big one, The Bachelor.  Yup, I tune in to farmer Chris, even though this season really isn’t doing anything for me, I’m still watching.

Sad:  I don’t really have the sads about anything right now, I’m fortunate to say.  Though, I am sad for other people’s sadness- friends who are going through a hard time, patients who are struggling with their health, and just people in general who are fighting a battle of their own.

Working:  I started a new eight week workout program that I’m adding into my current routine of HIIT training, strength training, and running.  I’m working on unpacking and getting organized in our new place.  Working on being kind to myself and continually working on striving for balance.

Grateful:  For a warm house, for my friends and family and their excitement for our recent move, for the love and support and help they all have given us.  I’m grateful for my health, and the health of my loved ones.  I’m grateful for a nice glass of red wine after a long week.

Listening:  To the book on CD I mentioned, to not much music except while working out, and to my cat purring next to me right now.

Wishing:  That work wasn’t so chaotic right now.  There’s been a lot going on with people out for health reasons and this or that, and it’s kind of taking a toll on everyone.
